The reservation will enable Ambrosia Space to validate and integrate its biomanufacturing system aboard Starlab, advancing biopharmaceutical production and technologies that support sustainable operations in space.
HOUSTON – September 15, 2026 – Starlab Space LLC, the commercial space station developer expanding access to low Earth orbit research, announces that Ambrosia Space, a space manufacturing company focused on advancing biomanufacturing technologies for space applications, has reserved space on Starlab. The collaboration will support the validation and integration of biomanufacturing systems aboard Starlab’s commercial platform, enabling new pathways for production in microgravity.
Through the agreement, Ambrosia Space will validate its biomanufacturing hardware in orbit and work toward integration within Starlab’s onboard systems. These capabilities are designed to support the development of biopharmaceutical products as well as in-space applications such as life support systems, resource utilization and other technologies critical to sustained human presence in space.
By incorporating biomanufacturing into its platform, Starlab is expanding beyond research to enable scalable production capabilities in low Earth orbit. This approach supports both commercial applications on Earth and the development of systems that can sustain long-duration missions, bridging the gap between scientific discovery and operational infrastructure in space.
“The ability to manufacture biological products in space has implications far beyond research alone,” said Marshall Smith, CEO of Starlab. “Ambrosia Space is advancing biomanufacturing technologies that could support everything from biopharmaceutical production to future life support applications. Starlab is designed to provide the platform these capabilities need to mature from demonstration to sustained commercial operation.”
“The growing space economy would not be possible without companies like Starlab developing the facilities to test and evaluate the hardware that moves in-space manufacturing beyond research toward a permanent sector of the economy. We are excited to partner with Starlab to validate Ambrosia Space’s technology and work to make life better on Earth, and in space,” said Mario Maggio, founder and CEO of Ambrosia Space.
The announcement builds on Starlab’s growing life sciences ecosystem, where microgravity creates conditions that reveal new insights into medicines, materials and biological systems. By enabling controlled experimentation in low Earth orbit, researchers can evaluate performance limits, refine formulations and advance product development pathways that may be difficult to replicate on Earth.
Starlab’s market-driven business model is designed to reduce cost, complexity and risk for researchers and commercial partners. Its single-launch, no-assembly-required architecture enables full certification and operational readiness within weeks from launch, minimizing delays and maximizing efficiency for payload customers. Through its joint venture partners, customers can conduct research aboard the International Space Station today, ensuring a seamless transition to Starlab as its next-generation capabilities come online.

About Ambrosia Space
In Space, you can make better drugs. Biologics, drugs made of large proteins, can be made into uniform crystals making them injectable and more stable. While Crystallization is what makes space unique, it isn’t the primary hurdle to bringing in-space manufacturing to market. Scale is. Ambrosia Space is solving this bottleneck by building the whole biologic manufacturing process in space. This begins with the largest, most capable, biomanufacturing system ever flown to space. Because biomanufacturing can produce different products based on the biology grown, Ambrosia Space is able to support more than just biopharma. These systems can produce fuels, nutrition, medication, bioplastics, and more that will enable Ambrosia Space to help protect our nation, build an economy in space, and settle the Moon and Mars.
